In memory of our late founder Peter Mitchell MBE, Viking Canoe Polo are hosting a 4-aside Canoe Polo tournament, Open & Youth, on Saturday the 4th of January 2020, 9am-6pm at Queen’s Leisure Centre, Derby.

In memory of our late founder Peter Mitchell MBE, Viking Canoe Polo are hosting a 4-aside Canoe Polo tournament, Open & Youth, on Saturday the 4th of January 2020, 9am-6pm at Queen’s Leisure Centre, Derby.

Pete always believed in playing 4-aside in smaller pools throughout the winter and we thought that this would be a good way to honour and remember his legacy.

Spectators

This event will be free to watch for all spectators showing up at any point throughout the tournament.

Rules

Unlike usual Canoe Polo tournaments this will be a 4-aside event.
The tournament is a round robin format with 5 teams in the open and 5 teams in the youth categories. A win is 3 points, draw is 1 point and a loss is 0 points. Highest number of points at the end of the tournament wins. If teams have equal points, the tournament will be decided on goal difference, the goals for etc.
Games will be 8 minute halves with a 2 minute halftime and a 2 minute changeover period.
If games are ready to start ahead of time then they will be started early.

The tournament is held at Queens Leisure Centre, Cathedral Rd, Derby DE1 3PA

Parking is available:
1. On the road outside Queens Leisure Centre
2. Directly opposite Queens Leisure Centre

Drop off your boats and kit on the road directly outside Queens Leisure Centre before finding your parking. We will be there to direct and assist you.

Food

We will not provide food, you are welcome to bring your own or alternatively there are many shops and cafes a short walk away as the tournament is in Derby city centre.

Photography

The tournament has an official designated photographer that will be wearing an identity badge. By participating in the tournament, all players are giving their consent to be photographed in accordance with the Queens Leisure Centre photography policies.

Insurance & Safeguarding

The tournament is covered for insurance and safeguarding under the Queens Leisure Centre policies and the club’s British canoeing membership. The tournament has been fully supported by the British Canoeing Canoe Polo Committee.

Prize Giving Ceremony

The prize giving ceremony will take place at the Blessington Carriage, Chapel Street DE1 3GU, at 18:15.
